İyelik ekleri – possessive constructions

In Turkish, possessive constructions are formed by adding possessive suffixes directly to the noun.

The form of the possessive suffix depends on both the grammatical person (first, second, or third) and the number (singular or plural) of the possessor.

Here are the possessive suffixes in Turkish:

  • Singular Possessive Suffixes:
    • My: -(I)m / -(I)mız
    • Your (informal singular): -(I)n / -(I)nız
    • His/Her/Its: -(s)I / -(s)I(m)ız
  • Plural Possessive Suffixes:
    • Our: -(I)mız / -(I)mızın
    • Your (informal plural): -(I)nız / -(I)nızın
    • Their: -(l)eri / -(l)eri(m)iz

For example:

  • Ev (house)
    • Evim (my house)
    • Evin (your house)
    • Evi (his/her/its house)
    • Evimiz (our house)
    • Eviniz (your house – plural)
    • Evleri (their house)

Another way to express these relationships is to use a personal pronoun with the same ending:
  • benim evim
  • senin evin
  • onun evi
  • bizim evimiz
  • sizin eviniz
  • onların ev(ler)i
